In the 1930s,
a group of academics at the University of Oxford in England began an informal literary discussion group. These academics were literary enthusiasts that included C.S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia series, and J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings series, some of the most brilliant thinkers of their time. They called themselves the Inklings.
At Sturgis, we hope to live up to that legacy. The Inklings at Sturgis meet to discuss in greater depth some of the works we read (albeit superficially) in class, as well as other great books of interest. The group meets once each week to share in roundtable form, with mutual edification and inspiration for intellectual curiosity as its highest ends.
